I’ve come to realize something about myself…I’m photo obsessed. The only thing hanging on my walls are family photos. Canvas prints, framed photos & displayed photo books are everywhere. Looking at these captured memories never gets old for me. Seriously. I know it’s cheesy, but it’s true!
As I journeyed through this process of becoming The Photo Librarian, I started to reflect on why I was photo obsessed. My connection to photos started very young. As a child, I remember spending a week (or maybe it was only a few nights, but it felt like a lifetime) with my grandparents. I was missing my parents so much that I carried around a photo of them that my grandma had. As I got older, I loved taking pictures with my friends, framing them and putting them into albums. Later, as a new mom, I read that when children see themselves in photos it fills them with a sense of belonging. Displayed photos remind them that they are an important and valued part of the family unit and increases self-esteem.

Taking that all in, I remember thinking about how busy our young family was and made a conscious decision to make it a habit to get family portraits on a regular basis, no matter how busy we were, and to find creative ways to display the images as a part of our everyday life.
Today, capturing these memories has never been easier! The invention of smart phones has been a HUGE help in capturing the everyday memories.
How lucky are we to have cameras in our back pockets?
