The first time you heard the term “Professional Photo Organizer” you more than likely thought “that’s a thing?” If you’ve followed my social media pages or read other blog posts on this site, you are now well aware that it IS a thing AND there’s a lot to it!
The work gets broken down into “Digital Organizing” & “Physical Organizing”, but what does that mean? Earlier posts have explained Digital Organizing in great detail. This post will shed some light on the physical side of photo organizing.
Think about your collection of photos, videos & memorabilia. It can all be broken down into what lives in your digital space (on phones, computers, hard drives etc) and what lives in your physical space (in albums, boxes, bins, shelves etc). Most people are overwhelmed with getting the digital files consolidated, organized and backed-up to keep them safe. But what about all those boxes of printed pictures wilting away in your basement? Who looks at the albums and albums of random prints? Do you even have a way to play those old home movies?
The longer your photos, but especially your videos, are exposed to the elements, the quality naturally deteriorates. Videos become brittle over time and eventually break, even if they’re sitting on a shelf or in a box!
There are many companies that offer scanning and video conversion services, so why should you send them to me?
- Your priceless memories are personally handled.
- I literally use white gloves (to prevent fingerprints)
- Each digitized image is reviewed for quality control and rotated to the proper orientation.
- Your organization is maintained. Pictures are returned to you in the way you sent them. A big box of unorganized photos will be returned as a flash drive full of digital images. Envelopes of photos labeled with year, date, names, event etc, will be sent back on a flash drive with folders and any available information.
- If you send me a tape of the Simpsons that you thought was a home movie (this has happened!), I’ll shoot you an email and ask if you really wanted to digitize it. I do not charge you for blank tapes (or tapes of the Simpsons!).
The goal of any photo organizer is for you to have easy access to your memories and ENJOY them! By digitizing your printed pictures and outdated video tapes, you can access them just as you would a photo or video taken last week. Your memories are safe from fire, flood or natural deterioration AND you’re minimizing the physical space those items take up in your home.
