Oh 2020…what’s left to say that hasn’t already been said? It was a year. We’ve all been dealt a different hand. We’ve all responded to this year in our own way, based on our own circumstances.
I’d like to think back to some positive experiences from my year. Trust me, I’m ready for 2020 to be in my rear-view mirror. I’d love to pretend it was all just a bad dream. We can all easily share stories about how this year has had a negative impact. Let’s take a moment to think about some highlights…
- I spent a lot of time with my two teenagers who in “normal” times would have been busy with sports schedules and social engagements. We’ve laughed, talked about their futures, played so many games, dragged them on hikes, the list goes on and on. This time with them feels like a gift. Yes, they missed out on a lot of typical Junior and Senior year memories and events, but I can’t help but feel blessed for these different memories we had.
- I read 65 books this year! Without weekend plans and nightly kid activities, there was a lot more time for reading. I read some bestsellers, a couple memoirs and increased my awareness of mindfulness with a Zen master. This year reminded me how much I love to read!
- When life slowed down, I found myself open to trying new things. I perfected some new recipes and explored many new local hikes. I even gave wake surfing a try! But the biggest “new thing” was being open to an opportunity to start my own business. This was not even in my consciousness. The opportunity presented itself and I thought “why not?” I’m so excited to see where this venture takes me and I’m so happy for this time when I was able to jump right in because “what else was I doing?”
OK…so I’m going to be honest here, I went into this thinking I’d do a “top 5 highlights from 2020” and I came up with 3. I guess I’m not as positive as I think I am.
Here’s hoping 2021 has a top 10 highlight list for all of us!
